INFORMATION ABOUT AZITHROMYCIN
Azithromycin 250 mg is a commonly prescribed antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It belongs to a class of antibiotics called macrolides.
Uses of Azithromycin 250 mg
Doctors often prescribe Azithromycin 250 mg for infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including Respiratory tract infections, Ear infections, Skin and soft tissue infections, Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), Certain gastrointestinal infections and others.
How Azithromycin Works
-
It enters bacterial cells and binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit, which is part of the machinery bacteria use to make proteins.
-
This blocks protein synthesis, preventing bacteria from growing, functioning, and multiplying.
-
Because bacteria can’t make essential proteins, they eventually die or are cleared by the immune system.
NOTE:
-
It treats bacterial infections, not viral infections (like colds or the flu).
-
Always complete the full course even if you feel better early.
-
Avoid taking it with antacids containing aluminium or magnesium, as they reduce absorption.
-
Some people may experience side effects such as nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain, or headache.
